Open to the public since July 1st, the Levi’s Workshop pop-up space at 580 Valencia St. has been serving as a retro print shop / concept store; it’s just one in a series that Levi’s has been doing (they have a photography pop-up shop in New Orleans and a music production one in New York). Each of the spaces are supposed to be community loci for local pioneers, neighborhood groups and artists – tying into Levi’s we are all workers ad campaign that sets a nostalgic yet empowering tone for today’s recession via the words of Walt Whitman and a harkening back to America’s frontier spirit and can-do attitude.

The Valencia space provides an outlet for people to get their hands dirty with classic letterpress machinery, screen-printing design and setting type. They’ve hosted a series of workshops and events in the past month but they’ve really saved the best for last…

Coming up on August 20th, you can see Alice Waters and FutureFarmers founder Amy Franceschini as they launch their new book Farming 2050, as well as an educational poster series for the Edible Schoolyard.
