First Fridays in Oakland; Wine is poured, galleries stay open late and crowds spill out into the streets as part of the monthly late night event called Art Murmur. Here you’ll find art mobs and anarchist vegan taco stands. What else could you possibly ask for?

Most Art Murmur spaces are within walking distance (5 to 10 blocks) of the 19th St. and MacArthur BART stations and are usually open from 6 to 9 p.m. But the real action takes place on 23rd street – which comes alive after dark with street performances and vendor stands selling handmade items and artworks.

If the maddening crowd is not your scene – try revisiting Oakland the following Friday for a calmer, more retro experience. Stealing away for cocktails and a bite at Flora restaurant at 1900 Telegraph Avenue – an Art Deco gem with meticulously crafted fine fare – and going to see a revival screening of King Kong in the beautiful Paramount Theater across the street. The screening kicks off July 9th – Show starts at 8 p.m. and costs just $5!
