On Thursday December 2nd SFMOMA’s Now Playing series will feature a key figure of the Italian avant-garde, a Shadowshop of artworks you can take home for the holidays and a selection of noshes and brews curated by Meatpaper Magazine on the rooftop sculpture garden.

The evening will include a special screening of the film Rara in the Phyllis Wattis Theater. The silent film is a dip into the theater and culture of 1960’s Italy and features as protagonists many important artistic figures of the epoch (not least among them Daria Nicolodi – cult actress of Dario Argento’s films). The film, made by Sylvano Bussotti – director, set designer, composer and key innovator in experimental graphic notation – is presented by SFMOMA and SFsound, along with the participation of the Italian Cultural Institute and the Progetto Sonora-CEMAT.

Also, embedded in SFMOMA’s 5th floor galleries and open for the evenings’ activities is Shadowshop: a pop-up shop of artsy wares and museum pieces recreated in miniature. Shadowshop is curated by Stephanie Syjuco and presented in conjunction with the exhibit The More Things Change. The project is inspired by informal economies, creative labor, open source, dark matter, culture as souvenir, and alternative distribution networks.

Last but not least, Meatpaper will celebrate the release of Issue #13 on the SFMOMA rooftop. The latest issue of Meatpaper comes with a special gift: SANDWICH, a mini-zine covering all things sandwich. And, to boot, Knead Bakery, Luce, Ozumo, The Paragon, The Terrace Room, and Tres Agaves are all bringing free bites to the Schwab Room.
